Sir,

I beg to inform you that a collision took place off Hong Kong betwixt #1848.

Notice Department.

I have the honour to report that they would make, and live European Inspector on duty directed A. S. from the Chinese junks which would paint out the deputy.

Stones had been thrown at their boat before, in passing through the harbour, other at the Central station that shortly.

Gentlemen gave information on the 15th, Mr. Muir, Mr Bean, and three S. H. Constables and an Interpreter, to proceed in the Police Boat and bring the persons in charge of the junks to the Station. Upon drawing near the junks, which were

M. B. Millier, Esq. Chief Magistrate.

M. Merivale.

it will be difficult there to determine whether collision arose from the improper manner in which the English boat was conveyed in the Junk or whether the Chinese were justified by their fears of violence towards Mr Muir's party.

It is clear that it will only be necessary that regret should be expressed for the unfortunate result which has occurred.

The Governor is being informed of the proceedings and has approved of the steps taken to prevent similar disasters happening in the harbour. AB. 24/1.

It is to be feared that there is little chance of putting a stop to these collisions at this distance.
